Youtube announced Google confirmed on Thursday that Google Lens will soon be available for YouTube Shorts. Google Lens will be integrated into Shorts so that viewers can search the content they’re watching.
If you are watching a Short that was filmed at a place you would like to visit, then you could select an iconic landmark, and have Lens identify it. You can then learn about the culture and history of your destination.
YouTube aims to provide users with more intuitive ways to search, discover, and interact with content by integrating Lens in Shorts.
Google Lens is a great way to improve search for YouTube Shorts users, particularly since TikTok or Instagram Reels do not offer similar features.
The functionality will roll out in phases. Users can try out the feature by pausing Shorts and then choosing the “Lens” The top menu will have an option to search. After that, they can either highlight something, draw it, or simply tap the item they are searching for. Lens will overlay the Short and provide search results with matching visuals. You can then jump to your previous content once you have finished watching the Short.
YouTube confirms that users won’t be able to see any ads during the Beta phase of Lens in Shorts. Google-owned YouTube also says Lens in Shorts won’t be available with Shorts that use paid or affiliate product links.
YouTube has begun to offer the beta version to everyone this week.
