Social media was flooded with photos of the singer in an elegant black designer dress during the event on Monday. “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme. The images are AI generated. Perry clarified that she wasn’t at the Met, but on tour.
Perry’s Reaction
“Couldn’t make it to the MET, I’m on The Lifetimes Tour (see you in Houston tomorrow IRL),” The fake photos were posted on Instagram by the woman.
She added an insult to AI confusion. “P.s. this year I was actually with my mom so she’s safe from the bots… but I’m praying for the rest of y’all.”
Repeat hoax
It is the second year in a row Perry went viral with an AI-generated Met Gala appearance. The fake image she wore in 2024 of her wearing a flower ball gown was a big hit, fooling thousands including Perry’s mother.
The deepfakes have become harder to detect. One fake photo claiming Perry had worn a Mugler material never seen before went viral.
Growing concern is growing over the spread of AI-generated content that looks real, particularly as they are fooling not just their fans, but even family.
AI dresses celebrities to attend events that they do not actually attend. Millions still fall for this scam.
Perry is still going strong “Lifetimes Tour” Her next stop is Houston. While the internet struggles with real and algorithmic content, it continues to be a source of confusion.
