Holley claims that the emerging AI will be a kind of bootcamp through which all software developers will go in order to identify and correct a number of vulnerabilities latent within their code. Anthropic and OpenAI are attempting to make sure that as many big players as possible go through the overhaul process before this capability is more widely available.

“Every piece of software is going to have to make this transition, because every piece of software has a lot of bugs buried underneath the surface that are now discoverable,” Holley is Firefox’s spokesperson. “This is a transitory moment that is difficult and requires coordinated focus and a lot of grit to get through, but I think that it is a finite moment, even as the models become more advanced. Maybe the more advanced models will find a few things here or there, but I believe that, at least on the Firefox side having had a bit of a head start here, that we’ve rounded the curve.”

Holley says the Firefox team received access to Mythos Preview through direct collaboration with Anthropic, and Mozilla does not officially belong to its greater consortium called Project Glasswing.

Firefox, an open source software program that is widely used around the world but maintained by only a few volunteers or one individual in most cases, could be negatively affected by AI bug-hunting capabilities.
