Google is testing a machine-learning-powered tech in the U.S. to determine the age of users and filter content across all its products accordingly.

To determine age, the company will use data in Google accounts. This includes information about what users searched or watched, as well as categories of YouTube videos. The company will send an email to users who are under 18 if the tool determines they’re not.

Google will block adult apps from the Play Store, disable the time line in Maps and stop personalizing ads. It will also activate digital wellbeing features YouTube has many useful features, including break reminders. “go to bed” When watching late-night videos, you will receive notifications. The user can prove his or her age by using either a government-issued ID photo, or even a selfie.

Google has rolled out a new feature similar measures for YouTube earlier this week, and now the company is experimenting with machine-learning-based age gating in the U.S. for Google accounts at large. The company stated that they have tested age estimation technology in certain markets, without specifying the specific ones. It worked very well.

“Age assurance helps us ensure that adults can access the information and services they need, while also applying the right protections for our younger users. Our approach to age assurance uses a combination of age estimation and, when necessary, age verification,” Google said in a post.
