The Cursor is wildly popular There are many ways to get in touch with each other. AI coding startupThe new AI-powered feature allows users to design web apps with a unique look. Visual Editor is an AI-powered vibe-coding tool for designers. It gives them the fine-grained control they would expect in professional design software. In addition to being able to edit the design manually, users can also ask Cursor’s AI agent for help using natural-language.
Cursor, a startup best known as a platform for AI coding, is now introducing Visual Editor to help with other software creation processes. “The core that we care about, professional developers, never changes,” Ryo Lu is Cursor’s Head of Design, and he tells WIRED. “But in reality, developers are not by themselves. They work with a lot of people, and anyone making software should be able to find something useful out of Cursor.”
Cursor, a startup in AI technology that has grown rapidly over the past few years, is among the top AI companies. Cursor says that since 2023, it has exceeded $1 billion in annual revenue. Tens of thousands companies have signed up, including Nvidia Salesforce and PwC. In November the company closed a $2.3billion funding round, bringing its valuation to approximately $30 billion.
Cursor is a leader in AI code development, but now it faces greater competition than ever, including from OpenAI and Google. It has traditionally licensed AI models and coding from other companies. But now, its rivals have invested heavily in their own AI-coding products. Anthropic’s Claude Code grew at a faster rate than Cursor. $1 billion in annual recurring revenue Six months have passed since launch. Cursor responded by developing its own AI model.
In the past, creating software required multiple teams to work together on a variety of tools and products. Cursor wants its design features to be directly integrated with the Cursor coding platform. This will allow it to bring all of these functions into one single platform.
“Before, designers used to live in their own world of pixels and frames, and they don’t really translate to code. So teams had to build processes to hand off tasks back and forth between developers and designers, but there was a lot of friction,” Lu. “We kind of melded the design world and the coding world together into one interface with one AI agent.”
AI-Powered Web Design
Jason Ginsberg from Cursor, the product engineering leader at WIRED San Francisco’s headquarters, showed how Visual Editor was able to modify the appearance of a web page.
On the right, a traditional design panel allows users to change fonts, buttons, menus or backgrounds. The chat interface is located on the left. It accepts all natural-language queries, like “make this button’s background color red.” The Cursor agent will then apply these changes directly to the codebase.
Cursor has released its very own browser, which works within the coding platform. The company claims the browser provides a more effective feedback loop for developing new products. Engineers and designers can view real user requests and have access to Chrome-style developer tool.
